Note: Je suis allé à Bruxelles, en Belgique. J'ai donc fait appel à la liste des cadraniers inscrits en Allemagne, et voici quelques-unes des réponses que j'ai reçues. My visits with you at previous conferences have always been one of the high points of the trip. There was a smaller turnout this year, but still very interesting and I really love S.F.. Was it too far for you or did you have conflicting late summer plans like most of the no shows? I heard there, that you will host next years Conference in Montreal. That sounds great! I have heard that the Toronto conference was one of the best. I hope I can talk my wife into joining me. She has loved visiting Canada and loves the people; so I know it won't be too hard. Enjoy your trip to Brussels. It must be very enjoyable seeing the world as you do (both physically and mentally!). Is it possible for me to join the Quebec Sundial Society, so as to receive its Bulletin (Le Gnomoniste)? the tours. I've never been there
and I can't wait! It will be nice to see you again. Hope all is well. Best

p.s. Sorry, I don't have information about sundials in Brussels.

Bouchard Cc: Sundial List Subject: Re: sundials in Brussels Dear André, In addition to the Sundial Park in Genk which Warren Thom mentioned already, I can recommend two more places worth visiting: The village of Rupelmonde (some 20 km north of Brussels, just south of Antwerp), which has plenty of sundials. The Tourist Office has a brochure for a guided tour featuring 23 sundials. A summary can be found at: http://gallery.uunet.be/veerle.Heyman/zonnewijzers/ Secondly, the Municipal Museum Stellingwerff-Waerdenhof in Hasselt (15 km west of Genk) has an exhibition on all the sundials in the province of Limburg, and several very nice, newly constructed sundials . The exhibition is open until September 10 (National Heritage Day). Some pictures are at: http://www.biol.rug.nl/maes/zwkring/hasselt.htm (text in Dutch, I am sorry). Have a nice stay! ( Zonnewijzerkring Vlaanderen ) It's a nice walk to see the most of them. The chairman of the Belgium Society, Julien Lyssens, is head of the Foreign Office of Rupelmonde. In Brussels I know two sundials: - a very nice sundial in a mosaic on the wall of an old chemist's shop, Coudenberg 64, a street in the centre of Brussels between the Royal Palace and the Royal Library |
- a meridian line in the cathedral of Saint Michael in the centre of the city
In Elsene (Ixelles), a city in the agglomeration of Brussels, there is a valuable vertical sundail
on the west wall of the house Schepenenstraat (Rue des Echevins) 72
